Project goals
- Deliver a Seamless Digital Ordering Experience: Enable guests to browse menus, customise orders, and pay — all from their own device — with zero friction and no app download required.
- Users spend less time: By ordering food, waiting for their meals, and paying, thanks to convenient payment options.
- Increase Average Order Value (AOV): Deploy smart upselling prompts, combo suggestions, and high-margin item highlights at key decision points during the ordering journey.

Explorations

Many menus use typography instead of images to represent items, and waiting for the server to take your order can take a considerable amount of time.
- Problems — Customers often experience issues with faded text, low-quality images that don't accurately reflect the food, and long waiting times for service from the restaurant.
- User personas — To address these issues, the design must respond to the behavior, preferences, and needs of user groups. For example, some may want to order food quickly during short breaks, or they may want to see clear details of what they will receive.
- User journey — To understand where user problems lie, it's essential to clarify at every step how these issues will be resolved.

Concept design

After considering the pros and cons of various options in terms of their potential impact on the product and other key performance indicators, we proceed with the design process as follows:
- Wireframe — Once the problem is defined, explore a variety of creative solutions, including implementations, data structures, and layouts.
- Prototype — The process of transforming ideas into tangible forms ready for testing. Whether you create simple sketches or high-resolution interactive models, the goal is to create a working "experiment" to validate your logic and ensure every interaction leads to the correct point.

Sequencing & testing

A properly sequenced workflow allows users to think more deeply and reach their goals more quickly. Therefore, it is crucial that this process is tested to ensure that our design actually solves the problem. See the example below:
- Browsing & Discovery: High-quality imagery is front and center. Users navigate through clear categories (e.g., Mains, Drinks, Desserts) with a search bar for quick finds.
- Selection & Customization: Clicking an item opens a "modifier" tray. This is where they choose things like spice levels or extra toppings. The price should update in real-time.
- Cart Review: A quick summary of the order. This is the last chance for "smart suggestions" (e.g., "Add a side of fries?") before they commit.

Making the product decision

For product decision-making to be effective, a balance must be struck between user needs and business goals. Prioritizing issues helps teams focus on the "must-haves" first.
- High Priority — Payment Errors: Users encounter problems during the checkout process (e.g., complex steps, limited options, "pay as a guest"), which is a significant issue leading to unsuccessful payments.
- Medium Priority — Complex Customization Flow: If adding a simple modifier (like "no onions") takes too many taps, users get frustrated.
- Low Priority — Micro-interactions: Small animations when a button is clicked or a "success" sparkle when an item is added to the cart.
  (These are "nice-to-have" features that improve the overall feel but aren't necessary for the core function.)

Enhance to submitting

When prioritizing the "thinking" to the "doing" phase, creating an experience is the step that transforms those priorities into a vibrant interface.
- Hierarchy: Place the most popular categories (High Priority) at the top. Use clear, descriptive labels so users don't have to guess where the "Sides" or "Drinks" are.
- Bright & Airy Interface: Use a light background to enhance food photography. Avoid dark overlays, as they make food look unappealing and text harder to read.
- Visual consistency: Ensure that all food photos have consistent lighting and "ambiance".
- Accessibility & Polish: Verify that all text is readable against the bright background.

Measurement

To assess how well the product effectively solves user problems, case-by-case tracking is performed using performance indicators from Google Analytics, in close collaboration with the product owner. Results are summarized every 1-2 months to inform future improvements and development.

Here is an example of task tracking:
- Conversion Rate: % of visitors who complete an order.
- Average Order Value (AOV): The average total amount of orders.
- Time to Order: The time taken from "scanning" to "checkout".
